Types Of Photography

There are various types of photography and subjects to learn about when it comes to digital photography. One of the great thing I love about photography in the digital age, is that you get to see your results instantly and with the modern cameras in today’s technical world, you can manipulate the effects you get through various software programs such as Photoshop Elements 10 !

Portraits Photography

A portrait generally means taking pictures of another human and can even include your pets. Generally a portrait picture is intended to capture the personality in a picture and is one of the oldest forms of taking pictures

Wedding Photography

Couples usually hire a wedding photographer, so that they can prepare a wedding album of pictures to remember their special day of marriage.

These photos can have various edits such as a sepia tone added to them, to give them a timeless, classic feel. Capturing where and when to photograph the Bride and Groom comes with practise and experience, as well as experience with software to get the best results from the pictures you take.

Underwater Photography

Scuba divers and snorkelers have specific camera’s that are able to cope with underwater conditions and can often be expensive for this specific reason and is usually less common, due to this added expense. This is a lot more difficult to master, however if you are used to underwater conditions and can adapt to take photos underwater, then by all means, give it a go !

Advertising Photography

We’ve all seen the big billboards in advertising and many professionals devote their whole career on this type of photography. Due to the nature of advertising, you may well be required to photograph a number of specific subjects, so having experience with a variety of object, people and places will certainly come in handy.

Landscape Photography

The world is a magnificent place and may also change over the course of time. Capturing nature in all its natural glory is a wonderful thing. Whether its skies and seas, coastlines, forests, valleys, moorland or lakes, rivers and oceans, these will surely be some of the most magnificent photographs you take, due to the large expanse of space and scenery that’s been photographed.

Sports Photography

Professional sports photographers tend to offer their photographs for editorial purposes such as newspapers, sports magazines and sports websites. Sports photography can also be used for advertising media to either promote a specific sport or brand awareness.

Macro Photography

Macro photography means close-up photography, generally of smaller objects and viewed in a larger than life format. A macro lens is done to perform this kind of photography and objects such as insects can be brought into greater proportion. The veins on flowers can be enhanced to see minute detail, which is often not visible to the naked eye. This is a very fascinating type of photography and one to certainly have a try at, if you are not squeamish about bugs ?

Glamour photography

The aim of glamour photography is to capture the subject in a suggestive way and exphasize on curves and shadows, rather than focusing on the lurid aspect. Glamour photography is intended to capture erotic or sexy and not to be confused with a stronger sexual style. This style of photography are classed as glamourous and therefore may have a flirtatious, playful or even mysterious feel.

By no means are these all the different types of photography, but will hopefully give you a little to think about if you decide to experiment further with this fun hobby or career

Pictures From York Taken In March 2012

Keeping track of my photo images and where we’ve been over the past months has been fun !

Here are some more pictures that I ‘forgot’ to upload onto the blog in March taken with my Nikon D3000, but better late than never … It was a glorious day in March, which was followed by snow a week later – Totally bizarre

Anyway enough of a rant from me, on with the show …

I always remember going over to the coast when I was younger and something we don’t get to do too often, so with the Easter Break from school for the little ones, we decided to have head over for a good full day at the seaside.

Here are just a few of the pics I took with my Nikon D3000, which I’ve put into a little video and hope you enjoy !

Photographs Of Ripley Castle Taken March 2012

Here are some recent photographs I took with my Nikon D3000, whilst on a visit to Ripley Castle In North Yorkshire. The castle was closed on the day we visited, so had a good hours walk around the Deer Park (No deers though) and the garden area.

There is a free parking area within a couple of minutes walk of the castle. For the latest opening times and prices for the castle and/or garden, click here

It’s still early on in the season, so not too much colour around, but I managed to get a good few shots of the castle and of course, my favourites … Lots of trees !

Topped off our visit with a pork pie and a piece of Tiffin cake, from one of the local stores, made the trip complete !

Find Employment in Stock Photography

With the continuing downturn in the economy, many people who have lost their jobs will be thinking “What next?” and feeling pretty depressed about the whole ordeal they are facing in finding stability once again.

You may just have seen reports recently about people getting started with home based businesses with a great new money making tool – the computer or laptop. Not only that you can choose the type of business you are interested in, for example budding digital photographers can make money from their very own photos.

Imagine that – being able to start a business from scratch and using one of you hobbies to set up your own online business. Digital photographers are receiving a regular salary from stock photography sites as well as receiving cash by selling photos to magazines and other media publications.

Stock photography is defined as a batch of existing digital photos which can be licensed for use. There are so many businesses that use stock photography sites to find photos they use for their publicity campains including Publishers, magazines, advertising agencies, filmmakers, web designers, and graphic artists. Instead of paying huge fees to a professional photographer they just purchase online stock photography.

Every photo that you take will become part of your “stock”, just like any other resource and as the copyright holder you can license the images as many times as you like. You are able to sell your photos over the internet through either stock agencies or microstock sites. You could even set up your own personal digital photo website and market them from there or you can approach publishers and other potential clients directly.

Microstock is just a sub product of stock photography and the main differences would be that a microstock photography agency normally sources images with exclusive rights. They also work with a larger amount of digital photographers than a stock photography agency does, and concentrate on selling millions of images at rather low prices on average about a dollar.

If you want to find out more about earning money online with your digital photography, then you just need a computer, a digital camera and of course, an internet connection. You will find out alot more about this home business opportunity on the official website below, where you will find the 12 best tips on how to make money using your digital camera.

Tip 1 Take Your Camera With You Wherever You Go

Take your camera with you wherever you go.

You never know when some good photo opportunities will crop up, so having your camera with you, lets you snap great shots when you see them.

Look at the world from a different angle or perspective to see what you can capture.

Here are a few piccies I took, all believe it or not, are from a shopping centre :)

My First Month Of Photographs

OK, so I set out with my Trusty Nikon D3000, to capture the world around me … Well at least around the surrounding areas !

It’s great to get out into the open and luckily (so far) the weather has been good to us, so we’ve managed to get out and about a few times this month and while lagging behind, trying to get some good images, I think I’ve done OK.

I know they are far from a professional standard, but would like honest thoughts of what you think of my photos and any ideas I could use on improving them – All comments and thoughts welcome.

All photos were taken in January 2012 …

This first set is from our 6 mile wander along the Leeds / Liverpool canal from Bingley, heading out towards Keighley on a misty morning …

And this next set is from Roundhay Park in Leeds, where I decided to convert my photos to Black And White … I love the details you get from these photos – Probably pretty boring to most, but I like them :)

I look forward to sharing my photography moments with you.

Starting A Fresh With Photography

Welcome to my blog, so who am I ?

My name is Richard Jagger, married to Lisa and have two beautiful boys.

I’m now in my 40′s which I still believe is very young. I was diagosed with Crones disease, back in November 1997 and I believe that you should live every day to the full.

I started this blog a couple of years ago and after a few re-inventions, I have decided for this to be my main viewing area for my photographic work, which I am absolutely loving.

We work extremely hard during the week with our own business, so whenever we can, we get out in the fresh air for exercise and a great opportunity to take some photos of our beautiful Yorkshire and UK, when we get to go further afield.

So, having purchased a fabulous Nikon D3000 DSLR, I hope to take my photogtaphing to another level – I home you enjoy the photos, as much as I enjoy taking them :)

I am always looking for feedback on my work, so please feel free to comment on any of the photographs or videos I add here.
